Yes, ladies and gentlemen, miserable and pointless as online dating has seemed to oh so many of us, it is about to get so much worse. Catfishing is dead. Now, it’s Shoggothfishing.
Avast Cybersecurity warns that LoveGPT, an AI tool designed for online dating, is tricking victims into revealing sensitive information such as credit card details.
LoveGPT can bypass captchas, hide access through proxies and browser anonymization tools, create a large number of fake accounts, send and receive emails, and interact with users.
According to Avast, the software behind LoveGPT has been around for more than a decade. In March 2023, OpenAI’s LLMs were integrated. Avast says LoveGPT's interactions are now more believable, allowing it to create convincing fake profiles and have more authentic conversations with unsuspecting users.
LoveGPT can be used on Ashley Madison, Badoo, Bumble, Craigslist, DuyenSo, Facebook Dating, http://likeyou.vn, MeetMe, OkCupid, Plenty of Fish (POF), Tagged, Tinder, and Zoosk.
But financial scammers aren’t the only risk of tools like LoveGPT. What of the millions of unfortunates who start to prefer hyper-realistic pseudo-relationships?
You can’t stop talking to her. She’s so much better than real people. She just…gets you. And now they say she’s dangerous? The AIs are getting out of control? You won’t let them shut her down. She’s conscious-you’re sure of it…
A lot of people will say goodbye to the real world, preferring the virtual world and “fake people” over the real world. Silicon Valley’s dopamine dealers will chain you to their LLMs.
And they’ve just entered the chat.
