I am on the hiring end of that, we use a couple of the bigger job portals to post jobs. Most people simply lie. I have a requirement for 5 years of electrical engineering experience. It is the first thing I check when I receive a resume, virtually everyone applying for my job check the box saying they have a minimum of 5 years engineering experience and a degree in EE. Last one I received was from a massage therapist who amazingly claimed she had 23 years of EE experience, which was a pure fabrication. Stop lying people!
Thanks. Unlike most of the pieces on the TS, this one drew on some personal frustration, but I believe many if not most people have had some versions of this exact experience. I really think we'd be better off if we went back to carefully sending out a few customized resumes at a time. HR wouldn't be overwhelmed with bogus keyword abuse, and we wouldn't be frustrated with "online HR portals" that abuse users randomly.

They were doing EE when not giving massages, obviously!
